RTE Radio 1 chose it's co-production with Crazy Dog 'The Ghosts of Reenascreena Lighthouse' to represent Ireland in 2005 Prix Europa radio awards in the one hour drama category.
There were 360 entries from 32 countries in this year's Awards which forced the event organisers to stage a first round of judging to select a short list of finalists. The Ghosts of Reenascreena Lighthouse has made the short list. RTE is sending Mark McGrath, the sound engineer and co-producer of the production to Berlin to be on hand at the Awards in October.
The play is a 'mocumentary' spoof about an sceptical American ghost hunter trying to discredit Ireland's most famous haunted lighthouse. Much of the production was recorded on location at Hook Lighthouse Co. Wexford.
The play was written, directed and co-produced by Roger Gregg and features the talents of Morgan Jones, Karen Ardiff, Liam Heffernan, Aileen Mythen, Georgina Miller and Roger Gregg. Original music by Roger Gregg performed by violinist Cliodhna Quinlann. The play was first broadcast by RTE Radio 1 as a Halloween night special in 2004.
